Sparkle Play Dough

Let me just put this out there ... I HATE play dough.  But my kids, they love it, so for them I tolerate it.

I recently decided that I should make play dough.  It isn't expensive to buy but I knew it had to be cheaper still to make it,
            right.
                                 Yes it is,
                                                                   much cheaper.

It costs about .20 a batch depending on what you put in it.

So after a little hunting and tweaking here is the recipe that I like

1 cup All Purpose Flour
1 Cup water
1/4 cup salt (I just had kosher, and it was not worth a trip to the store)
1 Tbs. Coconut oil (all the recipes I looked at called for Vegetable oil.  I figured if my kids were going to have their hands in it for a while they may as well get the moisture benefit of coconut oil)
2 tsp Cream of Tarter
Food Color / or Kool-Aid Packet
Ultra fine glitter
Cup of Coffee with yummy creamer - oh wait, that was just for me ;)

Before you but it on the heat dump all together, then put it on the heat, it starts to cook quickly and you want to be sure that your not cooking your goo to the bottom of the pan to badly.

Cook it over med heat.

It really is goo for a little bit, then before you know it it starts to firm up.  You are cooking until it is about the consistency you want the finished product to be.

If you pull it off to early and you find it too sticky later, good new, you can put it back on the heat.

After you cook it, cool it a little on a piece of waxed paper, then knead it to get out any of the "chunks"

Once it is cool, let the kiddos go to town!

I gotta tell you - fresh play dough is SOOOO much cleaner than old play dough.  Really there is hardly an excuse!  All of these things I had without going to the store!

(I do think I'll do kool-aid next time, it will smell better and not turn my hands pink)
